Romantic Nightmare Before Christmas Inspired Wedding at The Curtiss Mansion

There have been moments where I’ve had to pinch myself to make sure the moment is real. Getting the text from Monica from Events With A Promise about this shoot was one of them.

The reception space was covered in moss and leaves and had a table with a purple and eerie green shimmer table cloth. The table was adorned with candles, a stunningly spooky flower arrangement and ghostlike chairs. Off in the distance was an area wh…

As you may know, Halloween weddings sometimes get a bad wrap for being too “themed” and stereotypically only consist of the colors Black and Orange. This was not the case for this photoshoot. While dark colors were a must, shimmery accents and white pumpkins made this styled wedding a ghoulish delight.

The paper goods provided by Only One Mark was a five-piece invitation suite, all printed on handmade paper. Incorporating details such as a hand-drawn, preserved forget-me-not flower and a headstone shaped RSVP card, the design helped carry the eeri…

When it came to designing the invitation suite and menus, I wanted to make sure that it was not only elegant but it somehow tied in perfectly with the eerie, whimsical impression the film The Nightmare Before Christmas is known for. Adding in lyrical language and painting a purplish haze throughout the suite tied in some of the elements we all love from Tim Burton’s films.

And one of my favorite details is the fact that the couple has decided to invite Mr. Unlucky to their wedding (which in hindsight may have a horrifying result). It makes the inner fan girl in me flip.

The Blood Red Scarlet wax seal on the menus provided the perfect pop of color amongst all the dark elements found at the reception.

The happy couple who ended the night with a bang - handheld sparklers lit up the night sky.

The best part about this shoot was something I found out about afterwards. The couple who modeled for our shoot, Kelvin and Genesis, have been married for over 10 years and have four children. Their youngest has Dravet Syndrome, a life-threatening epilepsy condition, which has left Kelvin as sole caretaker and Genesis a full-time working mama and student. This shoot was an opportunity for life to hit a pause button to enjoy each other as a couple.

I am so glad something like this was able to give so much joy back into this couple’s marriage. And I mean, if you click the buttons below, you’ll be able to see how many amazing photos they’ll have to try to choose from.
